Satan's current abode is the atmosphere. From there, he has permission to access two places. First, he has access to heaven and often uses it for the purpose of accusing the brethren. He functioned that way in the life of Job (Job 1:6; 2:1) and continues to do so in the case of many believers today (Rev. 12:10), as well as in the case of the nation of Israel (Zechariah 3:1). Second, Satan has permission to access the earth and uses it frequently as well.

When Satan comes to the earth, it is in one of two forms. The first form is that of a roaring lion (I Pet. 5:8). In this form, his basic aim is to devour and destroy. This is how he frequently appeared to Israel. Satan, posing as the roaring lion, has been the driving force behind all anti-Semitic campaigns throughout Jewish history. He has also often appeared to the church in this form, and many of the persecutions against the church have been inspired by Satan as the roaring lion.

Satan works on the principle that whomever the Lord loves, he will hate. God, throughout the Prophets and the New Testament, spelled out His eternal love for the people of Israel. Therefore, Satan has had a perpetual war against the Jews, seeking to destroy them at every possible opportunity.
